Let Jesus Lead

By Pastor Brent

God gives humans a free will. We have desires and we have the ability to make decisions. Our desires affect the decisions we make. When our desires are bad are decisions will also be bad. So, human beings have to make a choice: Will we do what we want or what God wants, will we do life our way or will we let Jesus lead? The book of Proverbs says this:

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight (Proverbs 3:5-6).

The reality is that we don’t do a great job leading our own lives. If you’re like me, you’ve realized many times that you need to let go and let God take the wheel. The good news is that God loves you and that when He takes the wheel, He drives you to a better place—a place where there is joy and peace. This is what the wise man of Proverbs is saying. If we will follow Jesus and trust His teaching rather than our own understanding, He will lead us to good spiritual, emotional, and relational places where we can never get on our own. We might have to be patient, but He will do it.

What choices are you making today? Are you trusting Jesus with your life, doing things His way, or are you doing things your way? Just remember: Jesus is good, He loves you more than you know, and He will lead you to a better place.

Question to consider: If my desires are not God’s desires, how can I change what I feel in my heart?

Scripture to consider: Ezekiel 36:26-27; Romans 12:2; Philippians 4:8; Matthew 11:28-29.

Going Deeper: On our own, we don’t have the power to change our hearts or the way we feel. But Jesus can transform our desires through the power of the Holy Spirit. If you’re reading this, maybe you need to stop what you are doing, surrender to Jesus, and ask the one who is gentle and humble in heart for help.
