Encouragement for Your Week: August 3-9
This Week’s Verse
“Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.”
—Psalm 46:10 (NLT)
Devotion
Many nations around the world try to rise in power and make a name for themselves. They move forward with their own goals, based on their own strategies, believing their success depends on their leaders and their national pride. In many cases, they view their gods as supporters of their own agendas—not as true authorities. They don’t stop to ask whether what they’re doing is truly right, and they don’t take God’s will into account at all.
The same can be true for individuals. Many people chase fame and success, driven by personal ambition and passion. They act as if everything depends on their own strength and choices. They follow whatever "gods"—or values—they think will serve their goals best. But they rarely stop to question what’s really motivating them. They don’t take time to seek God or listen for His guidance.
But in the middle of all this pride and self-focus, God speaks clearly: “Be still, and know that I am God.” This is both a warning and an invitation. God is saying, Stop. Listen. I have something to say. If we ignore Him, the results can be painful. Whether people honor God with love or with fear, every nation will one day recognize His greatness.
We don’t get to tell God what we want to hear from Him. Instead, we need to pull away from all the noise and distraction around us. We need to stop pushing our own plans and start asking God what He wants to say. What does He want you to understand? What’s your place in His plan?
In a world full of voices competing for your attention and praise, give your attention to God. Spend time reading His Word. Be still. Listen. And know that time in His presence is always a blessing.
This Week’s Challenge
Set aside 10 minutes each day to turn off all distractions—no phone, music, or background noise—and simply be still before God. Use that time to quietly reflect on Psalm 46:10, ask God to speak to you, and listen with a willing heart. Write down anything you sense God putting on your heart during that time.
