Encouragement for Your Week: February 8-14

This Week’s Verse

For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other... – Galatians 5:17

Devotion

Have you ever felt like there’s a constant tug-of-war going on inside you? In Galatians 5:17, the Apostle Paul describes exactly that. He explains that there is a deep conflict between the Spirit of Jesus living within us and our "sinful nature"—that part of us that defaults to selfishness and pride.

One of the most exhausting ways this "sinful self" shows up is by whispering that you aren't enough. It tries to convince you that your worth is based on your performance. It tells you that who you are and what you do will never be quite right—that you should have worked harder, been kinder, or achieved more. It sets a bar that is impossible to reach, leaving you feeling frustrated and spiritually drained.

When you feel incomplete like that, it’s natural to go searching for something to fill the void. Maybe you try to find your "wholeness" in your grades, your reputation, your relationships, or just by staying busy. But when we try to fix our own emptiness with our own strength, it never works. That hollow feeling stays there because nothing we "do" can actually fill a hole that only God can heal.

Here is the good news: The Holy Spirit is fighting for you. The Spirit pushes back against those feelings of emptiness and reminds you that in Christ, you are already complete. You don’t have to spend your life auditioning for God’s love or trying to "find yourself." You have already been given every spiritual resource you need—the Holy Spirit, unique spiritual gifts, and the ability to grow in love and peace. You aren't a "work in progress" that God is waiting to finally like; you are his child, and He has already given you everything you need to live for Him right now.

You can stop the constant hustle. You don't have to let those inner demands for "more" keep you up at night. Whether you’re at a high point in life or struggling through a mess, you are whole in Him.

This week, take a moment each day to just breathe. Let go of the pressure to complete yourself. Stop striving for a version of "enough" that you can’t reach on your own and start resting in the fact that Jesus has already made you more than enough.
