Encouragement for Your Week: Sept. 28-Oct. 4
This Week’s Verse
But Caleb tried to quiet the people as they stood before Moses. “Let’s go at once to take the land,” he said. “We can certainly conquer it!”
- Numbers 13:30 NLT
Devotion
This week’s verse comes from the story in Numbers 13–14 about the twelve men Moses sent to scout out the land of Canaan. Ten of them came back afraid. Even though they admitted the land was good—just as God had promised—they focused on the giants and strong armies living there. Only Joshua and Caleb believed that with God’s help, the people could take the land.
This story still speaks to us today.
First, it reminds us that when it’s time to leave a season of trial or testing and step into what God has planned, we should expect challenges. Change and growth are rarely easy, and new opportunities often come with new battles.
Second, we always face a choice when obstacles stand in the way. Will we trust God to lead us, or will we let fear and unbelief take over? The Israelites weren’t imagining the giants—they were real. But everything they went through in the wilderness had prepared them for that moment. The same is true for us: what we’ve faced before equips us for what comes next.
Finally, we must decide to move forward in faith, like Joshua, Caleb, and Moses. They chose courage over fear. They looked beyond what they could see with human eyes and trusted God’s vision of what could be. That’s the kind of faith we need too.
Maybe you’re standing at a crossroads right now. You see the giants ahead of you, and fear whispers that you’re not ready. But God says you are. Trust Him and take the step. After all, who really wants to go back to the wilderness?
This Week’s Challenge
Think about one “giant” in your life right now—something that feels too big or overwhelming. Each day this week, pray and ask God to give you the courage and faith of Joshua and Caleb. Then take one small step forward instead of avoiding it. Trust God to go with you into the challenge.
