Encouragement for Your Week: September 20-26

This Week’s Verse

“The Lord GOD has given Me
The tongue of the learned,
That I should know how to speak
A word in season to him who is weary.”

— Isaiah 50:4a (NKJV)

Devotion

While Isaiah 50:4 prophetically points to Jesus Christ, its truth extends to everyone who belongs to Him and is filled with His Spirit.

Look around, and you will see a world exhausted by the heavy weight of sin, guilt, and self-reliance. Countless people are striving to navigate life in their own strength, trying desperately to do what is right, yet sinking under a burden no human is equipped to carry.

Jesus recognized this deep exhaustion and offered a clear solution: “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light” (Matthew 11:28–30). Rather than continuing to push through impossible demands, Jesus invites us to trade our overwhelming burdens for His grace—a gift received simply through faith in Him.

If you are a follower of Christ, God has equipped you with that same purpose. He has given you "the tongue of the learned"—the spiritual discernment to offer hope precisely when it is needed most. When you encounter someone at their breaking point, ready to give up, your words can offer a lifeline. A timely word spoken in love can redirect a struggling soul toward Christ and change the course of a life forever.
