This Week’s Verse
"The Lord clearly sees everything you do. He watches where you go."
— Proverbs 5:21
Devotion
In the book of Proverbs, King Solomon gives his son some blunt advice: be wise. He specifically warns him about being unfaithful in marriage. Solomon knew exactly how much damage a "secret" can do—he grew up in the shadow of the scandal between his father, David, and Bathsheba. He saw firsthand that secrets don't just stay secret; they tear families apart.
We’ve all been there. We think if we’re just clever enough or careful enough, we can get away with things. We imagine we’ve created a private little corner of the world where our bad choices won’t have any consequences. We tell ourselves, "As long as no one finds out, it’s fine."
But here’s the reality: this isn't our world. It's God’s. He isn't a distant observer; He is present and aware. The Bible tells us that God sits on His throne and sees everything that happens. Nothing is hidden from Him. Eventually, we all have to sit down and explain the way we’ve lived our lives to the One who created us.
When we choose to do wrong in secret, we aren't just breaking a rule—we’re hurting our relationship with God. It "grieves" His Spirit. Even though God is full of forgiveness through Jesus, He still allows us to feel the painful consequences of our actions. Why? Because He’s a good Father who wants to teach us to live better lives.
However, God’s "all-seeing eye" isn't meant to feel like a threat or a security camera catching you doing something wrong. If you are trying your best to follow Him, this truth is actually incredibly comforting.
The Bible says that God is actively looking across the earth for people who are faithful to Him so that He can make them strong.
He sees your secret acts of kindness.
He sees when you choose to be honest even when it’s hard.
He sees when you’re hurting and no one else notices.
God isn't just watching to catch you failing; He is watching so He can support you, bless you, and give you the strength you need to keep going. You are never alone, and you are never invisible.
