Encouragement for Your Week: September 7-13
This Week’s Verse
“Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?”
- Romans 11:34
Devotion
The God of the Bible stands apart from all other gods. In ancient pagan religions, people worshipped created things like the sun, moon, stars, or animals, raising them to the status of gods. Pantheistic beliefs see all of creation as divine, while modern secular thinking often treats people, success, or wealth as ultimate. But the God of the Judeo-Christian faith is different—He is not part of creation. He is the Creator, above and beyond it all.
Since God is greater than His creation, it makes sense that His thoughts are greater than ours. This week’s verse asks two rhetorical questions: “Who knows God’s mind?” and “Who has been His counselor?” The obvious answer is no one. As God says in Isaiah 55:9, “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
If God did not choose to reveal Himself, we would know nothing about His thoughts or plans. Thankfully, He does reveal certain truths through His Word, but not everything. The Bible leaves some questions unanswered. Even when God gives us glimpses of His plans for our future, He never shows the full picture. No one can claim to know every detail of what God will do in their life.
Because God is far above us and His wisdom is beyond our own, faith becomes essential. We have to trust Him—not just with what we understand, but also with what we don’t. We can be confident that what He has revealed is good and that what He hasn’t revealed is still safely in His hands.
So, trust the Lord with all your heart, knowing His wisdom and care are far greater than ours.
This Week’s Challenge
This week, whenever you face a situation where you don’t understand what God is doing, pause and pray, “Lord, I trust Your wisdom above my own.” Keep a journal of these moments and, at the end of the week, look back to see how your faith has grown through trusting Him.
